This tutorial will show you how to make this beautiful fabric flower. I made a set of these for one of my friends - she ordered them for the bridesmaids of a wedding party! This particular flower will have a hair piece attached to it - but, you can embellish almost anything with these flowers! I am very excited to see how all of the wedding pictures turn out! =)
These are the supplies you will need:
1. I used a coral color silk type of material (you can use whatever color you fancy)
2. A color of tulle that compliments your material (I used coral)
3. Good pair of scissors
4. Strong thread
5. Lighter
6. Tea light candle
7. Bead or button that compliments you piece
8. Needle
9. Cut outs of different sized circles (depending on how large or small you want your flower)
Cut out your circles - For my flowers I did two large, three medium and two or three small. I only cut out large for the tulle because I cut them down to whatever size I may need them at.
This is the pic of the materials you will use at this stage of the game - you are going to start to cut "petals" around your circles. I free hand my petals as you can see in the next picture. They are not very symmetrical but, I think that makes them look more real and romantic... yes I am a sucker for romance.... =)
These are your petals.
Okay this is where the tea light comes in - you are going to hold your petals one at a time and sear the edges of them so that they sear upward - what I mean is you want your petals to face toward the ceiling and not the floor - unless you want them the other way...
This is what your first layer should look like - and all the other layers after that - seared so that the petals are facing toward the ceiling.
Okay - This is your first layer of tulle - I do not put the tulle on after every layer (maybe every other layer - I just kind of "eye" it and figure out what way looks best).
This is what your flower should start to look like as you put more layers on... it will start to look full...
Okay, now you will need your strong thread, button or bead and needle.
Now you are going to thread your needle, put a little knot on the end of it, and then push your needle through the back of your flower. After you have done that, you put the button or bead on your thread and sew it on. (I do it a could times through just to make sure it is secure).
And, finish it by putting a knot on the back. =) There you have it! All done! Now, you can embellish anything with it. =D
Please feel free to comment and ask any questions that you have! Plus, I want to hear about all of your finished work! hurray! My first blog post is complete!
Love it!
